Yesterday, I had a follower from my Instagram account @lifewithlaker request some help for her stressed out pup! She wanted to know what essential oils she could use gently to support her pup through some difficult moments. It took me a bit to pick just my top 5! I broke it down into calming oils and happy feeling oils.

Top 3 Calming Essential Oils for Dogs:

  • Peace and Calming
  • Stress Away
  • Trauma Life

(bonus calming oil) Ocotea & Lavender! I told you I had a hard time picking just three!

I like these oils because they are gentle, easy on the nose and have proven time and time again to me that they work.

Top 3 ‘Happy Oils’

  • Tangerine
  • Orange
  • Lime

Ways to use these oils:

For Nama, she hates loud sounds. In the vacation town we live in in southern California, we get fireworks almost every weekend. This wreaks havoc on my dog Nama’s brain. So what I like to do is get her favorite shirt that gives her confidence and place one drop of one of these oils on the inside of the shirt on the back of her neck and it usually lowers the level of stress immediately for her.

*WARNING: Stay away from the nose area! Too strong of a smell and you’re doing a disservice. You just want gentle ‘wafts’ of freshened air.

You can also place diffusers around the house and use about 5 drops of whichever one of these oils you choose.

The important thing is to test and see which ones work for you. Ive never been able to get lavender to work for me for anything. But it works on one of my dogs and literally Millions of other people and dogs. Who knows, maybe a blend of your own will do the trick!
