Raw food can wreak a little havoc on your dog’s belly at first. This sharable smoothie recipe to help get their tummies back on track and better prep your dog for raw food.
As you all know, we started raw food this week (as of today, we are finishing up day two) and my guys are a little plugged up-so to speak. Its normal when first starting out on raw, for your dog to get constipated from the introduction of bone to their diet. Bone bulks up the stool and also absorbs water in the gut, so it makes sense when you think about it that they have hard poos.
Nobody likes being backed up, so it’s important to try and help relieve some of the symptoms of raw diet constipation.
Five things you can try to do to help the pipes flow nicely (but not too nicely-haha).
- Canned pumpkin
- Adding coconut water to their food (to keep them hydrated since on a raw diet, dogs drink way less water)
- Dark green leafy veggies
- Apple cider vinegar- 1/4 teaspoon per 10 pounds of body weight added to your dog’s food
- Aloe juice 1/4 teaspoon per 10 pounds of body weight added to your dog’s food
